Massacre of civilians linked to planned occupation of territory
A young married couple with three small children, who had transferred to the Casentino because of the husband’s work as a Forestry Soldier, were hit by a machine-gun fire in Bibbiena. There are no further indications of the location or cause of the event. Local memory has it that the couple died not in Bibbiena, but while trying to escape from the German forces in Prato all’Abate, a village in the Municipality of Pratovecchio Stia, near the Caserma Forestale dell’Imposto (Calla Pass). In reality, given Olivetti’s employment, it seems likely that his death was the result of contingencies related to the rounding-up operations in Falterona, Partina and Moscaio.
